Technology budget calculator
The lines companies miss at budget time, already listed. Enter your headcount and last year's spend, and the lines that follow from them work themselves out. The hard part of a budget is not the arithmetic. It is remembering what belongs in it.
Your figures never leave your browser. Every figure is worked out on your device and saved only in this browser so you can come back to it. None of it is sent anywhere, you need no account, and Clear wipes it all.
Start here
First, who is on the payroll?
One extra person does not add one line to a budget. It adds a mailbox, a laptop, a set of licences, a training allowance and a share of the insurance. Enter the headcount here once and every line that depends on it follows.
Headcount and payroll
Next year's headcount, not this year's. Rename, add or remove departments as you need.
The guide ranges under each line stay in Saudi riyals, and the calculator converts nothing. Read them as a sense of scale, not as figures in your currency.
The lines
Then work down the list
Use last year's actual spend, not last year's budget. Actuals are evidence; a budget is a guess that has already been proven wrong once. Where a line is really a rate of something else, press ƒ and choose what it follows. The guide ranges are indicative for a mid-sized Saudi company, in riyals and excluding VAT.
Technology spend commonly runs 2% to 5% of revenue in a traditional business and 8% to 15% in a technology-led one. Sectors vary widely, so treat it as a direction check, not a target.
Classify every line before finance asks you to cut ten per cent. Knowing in advance which lines can actually move is the difference between giving a briefing and having a negotiation.
